Is Your Thyroid Function Affecting Your Health?

For as long as I can remember, my grandmother has had bad thyroid gland function. She had a slow function, or hypothyroidism, and that caused her to gain weight, feel tired all of the time, and to wish she didn’t have to get out of bed each day.

She has been on medication ever since I was a child, and she is still on that medication today. She has relied on it to keep her thyroid functioning correctly, and it made her feel more human and gave her back much of her energy. She was always busy, so that was very important to her.

On the other end of the spectrum, there is also hyperthyroidism. This is something a close friend of mine went through recently. She noticed that she was losing weight for no reason, and because she was already thin, she became alarmed.

She noticed that she was shaking a lot, and seemed to have to move around when she wanted to relax. She never thought about it being her elevated thyroid function until her doctor mentioned that it might be a problem for her. As it turned out, this was exactly what she was up against.

When you find out you have thyroid problems, you do have to take a medication. You may have to take it for a while before you are on the right dosage, however, so allow yourself some time to start feeling normal again.

The function of the thyroid is very delicate and different for each person. That is part of the reason why it takes a while to get the meds right for proper function of thyroid. It is essential to follow doctors orders and to keep all appointments.

There are some home remedies that you can find to help with your thyroid disorder, but you should never try them without talking with your doctor. Some of them may work, but you don’t want to take something that won’t work, as your condition will get worse.

Don’t take anything if you haven’t been diagnosed, and be wary of taking things that have no research to back up claims.

Talk with your doctor to be sure these thyroid function treatments are safe to take, and that they don’t react with any other medications that you may be taking. These herbal remedies are all natural in most cases, but that does not mean they are safe for all people to take.

They may work very well for you, just make sure they are okay for you first.
